Game developer Mojang last year announced it was working on Minecraft Dungeons -- a blocky take on classic dungeon crawlers. We now know when it will be released. The game was originally scheduled for 2019, but Microsoft has announced that it will arrive on Xbox One, PC and Switch in April 2019.

The game boasts the distinctive Minecraft style and feel however, it turns the traditional gameplay of the series around. Instead of letting Games play with their imaginations on a vast, open canvas, Dungeons is an adventure game, full of quests, characters as well as items and enemies and is played by up to four players online.

Dungeons is something of an obsession for the team of a few at Mojang however it's not the only Minecraft spin-off around. Mojang was also responsible to Minecraft: Story Mode. The narrative-driven adventure game was extremely popular when it was launched in 2015.

According to Microsoft's latest -- and somewhat ambiguous -- trailer, players that sign up through Mojang's site will be in with the chance of playing Dungeons first, perhaps hinting at a beta ahead of the official launch in April. However, when exactly that launch will be is still unclear.
