With the billions of dollars Microsoft has invested in it, Minecraft's momentum isn't slowing. The game is now compatible with VR and allowed players to tweak their worlds through Add-Ons. The film has a release date (although it's set for 2019) and is soon to have its very own official novel. Mojang has confirmed that the upcoming book, titled Minecraft: The Island, is being written by none other than Max Brooks, the scribe behind the zombie novel World War Z.

"Think cuboid Robinson Crusoe, but madder: a hero stranded in a foreign land, with unfamiliar rules, struggling to survive against overwhelming odds," says Mojang's Marsh Davies. "I am looking at the early draft and it is absolutely amazing exactly as we hoped it would."

It's not clear when the book will be published or if it will have ties to the film, but it is likely that it will be the first in a series of. Publishing house Del Rey, a science fiction spin-off from Penguin Random House, is responsible for the entire process. Del Rey has stated that it was "fortunate" to have someone with Max's incredible talent and passion onboard for the series' launch.

While parents are likely to be responsible for more, some will be thankful that the Minecraft brand is extending its reach into the field of education. Minecraft Education Edition will assist teachers starting November 1st, and the release of the upcoming novels will only enhance children's enthusiasm for reading.
