Minecraft Java Edition has always been operating pretty much as it was prior to Mojang's acquisition of the developer by Microsoft. Bedrock Edition was created to integrate with Microsoft's account system, however, Java has been operating on its own Mojang account island until now. Java Edition will soon require players to have a Microsoft account to play. However, you'll still receive an unrestricted cape.

In the first quarter of 2021 In the beginning of 2021, you'll have to transfer your Java or Mojang account over to the Microsoft account system. Minecraft Servers Mojang says this is primarily to introduce two-factor authentication for greater security, but it will also result in improved parental controls as well as chat and invitation blocking, and account integration between Minecraft and Minecraft Dungeons.

Mojang has no plans to change Minecraft mods or PvP. Java and Bedrock will remain entirely separate games. Although you can continue to use your Java username, you may have to change your account name if you create an account with a Microsoft account. If you already have a Microsoft account, of course, you'll be able merge your Minecraft login immediately.

Mojang is offering a cape, which was once the most sought-after Java Edition item: to facilitate the transition. Participating in the migration process will provide you with a cape for free. While it won't have the Minecon exclusive designs, it will let everyone feel a bit royal.

While nothing is changing immediately the situation, players do have concerns, including the fact that Microsoft's more stipulations of service could cause bans to become more frequent, locking certain gamers out of access to Minecraft.

Further details can be found in the FAQ and official announcement. We'll see how it turns out in 2021, in the beginning of the year.
