It is also used in educational environments (Minecraft Education Edition) and in the realm of computer systems, as virtual computers and hardware devices were built into it. It was the second-most played video game, after Tetris which had more than 150 million copies sold across all platforms by late 2018. In September 2014, Microsoft announced a deal to purchase Mojang and the Minecraft intellectual property for US$2.5 billion and the acquisition was completed two months after. A spin-off game dubbed Minecraft: Story Mode was also launched. By mid-2018 the game had a total of 91 million active players monthly.
